It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when starting a social media marketing strategy from the very beginning. One way to ease the stress you’re feeling is to create a plan.
Here are a few tips to consider when working on your social media marketing strategy.
1: Choose your social networks
You don’t have to choose them all. Just choose a select few that you feel would best meet your demands. You will want to consider three things:
Consider the amount of time you can spend on social. Try to plan enough time each day to spend on your social accounts. Whether it is 30 minutes to an hour, devoting time to each page will give you a good start.
Can you provide your social networks with quality content? Content such a photos and interesting articles will keep followers coming back to your page and increase your engagement. Make sure you can provide the resources that are needed to keep followers.
You want to build your audience. You can do this by understating what kind or audience you want and what social networks attracts this type of audience. For example, if you want to attract people who craft, then Pinterest might be the network for you. If your audience are photographers then Instagram might be the best one for that group.
2: Fill out your profiles completely
Profiles will require both visuals and text. For visuals, you want consistency and familiarity with the visuals you use on other social media networks.
3: Find your voice and tone
Your voice is the mission statement and your tone is the implementation of that mission. To find your voice ask yourself questions such as:
- How do you want your customers to view your company?
- Are their companies and or organizations like yours?
- If your brand was a person, what kind of personality would it have?
4: Choose a posting strategy
Everyone’s posting strategy is different. You may ask: What’s the ideal amount to post per day? How often should I post? When should I post? What should I post? This all depends on your individual audience. You will need to do your research and find out the times of days that your audience is online, hashtags they use and what kind of posts get the most clicks.
5: Analyze and test your posts
The more you post, the more you will find out which content, timing, and frequency is right for you. Pay attention to your network’s analytics and learn from it. Most social networks will allow you to see a breakdown of how each post performed in areas such as views, clicks, shares, likes and comments.
6: Automate and engage
You will want a system you can follow to help you stay on top of updates and engaged with your community. You can automate your updates with tools like Buffer to create all the content and updates you want in one place. This will help you share consistently every day.
Don’t forget to engage with your followers. Follow up with conversations that are happening on social media and engage with your followers. This may involve liking statuses, posting comments on other pages or answering direct messages.
Following these tips will help set you in the right direction when creating a social media marketing strategy for the first time.
